Packaging Manager

Paulig has a range of well-known brands such as Santa Maria, Risenta and Paulig Coffee. We are now looking to fill a one-year temporary position as a Packaging Manager in the R&D department, starting September 1st, 2022. The position is located within the R&D organization in Mölndal, Sweden, reporting to Head of R&D, Flavouring & Risenta.


The R&D Department develop new products and concepts to supply the needs of innovation and renovation for all business areas, product categories and brands within Paulig Group.  


As a Packaging Manager you will lead the new development of Primary Packaging solutions for the products within Santa Maria and Risenta brand. Paulig Group has the ambition to be a frontrunner within sustainability and your role will be to lead chosen strategic initiatives regarding implementing packaging solutions developed by our suppliers. At Paulig, product & packaging development is performed in projects where you as a Packaging Manager is part of a team from different departments where your responsibility is that the primary packaging meets the high expectations form our consumers. The role is about translating consumer insights into packaging solutions that are user friendly and sustainable. This demands close cooperation with Product Developers, Marketing and key roles within Supply Chain and Manufacturing. R&D are normally part of the process all the way from ideation to handmade samples to large scale production and launch of product.


This Packaging Manager role is one of two within the Swedish R&D department and together you share the responsibilities for all the categories.


Responsibilities

  • Lead primary packaging development in product development projects and improvement projects where packaging competence is needed.
  • Responsible of coordinating the work for brief completion towards suppliers in key/selected initiatives.
  • Participate in material validation, securing brief demands are fulfilled (functional aspects, material performance and operational efficiency) together with Product Developer, Industrial Engineers and other relevant functions.
  • Active involvement at different production sites to support operation in driving improvement projects that are in line with strategy and affecting product quality. 
  • Giving input on category, manufacturing, and country specific needs as input to future plans.
  • Continuously perform scouting against our main competitors and explore trends in packaging and material development and identify areas of packaging improvement to maintain our superior brand presence in our categories.
  • Lead pre-studies and long-term packaging initiatives in line with Paulig strategies.
  • Presentation of concepts, products and technology to support Marketing, Sales and other relevant functions in internal and external training.  
  • Responsibility to continuously improve processes and wow within the area of packaging development.  


Qualifications

It is required that you have a passion for food, a university degree in chemical engineering, material science or similar. 3-5 years of documented experience from packaging development is mandatory.


The work requires you to be creative but still strategic with the ability to organize and prioritize. Problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset are part of your strengths.


Many of our products are produced in other countries so we see that you have good communication skills with the ability to map and coordinate large projects working in conjunction with international interfaces. As packaging development is a fast-changing field it is important to be updated on the latest innovations and have the ability to establish strong external networks within the area.


We are looking for an ambitious person striving for results, who takes initiative, enjoys being active and who is able to communicate to people clearly, concisely and with a high level of integrity. English at advanced level is required.
